There'll be no accusations...

Jellyfish. Yup. Exactly what I was thinking.

To further complicate the feelings of displacement and disorientation, in between all the to-ings and fro-ings from Dublin to London I somehow found myself in San Francisco and Silicon Valley for a fortnight in November. While this was entirely work-related and very little time for merry-making or frivolity arose, I did mange to sneak off one afternoon to the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park.

Part museum, part zoo, the Academy boasts an indoor rainforest and several rather large aquariums, and like a giddy child (but better behaved and quieter than the actual giddy children that infested the building) I ambled around snapping pictures of the fish. In fact, so giddy was I that I called The Very Understanding Girlfriend back in London and via the magic of an unlimited data plan and Skype I had an hour-long video call with her, making wildly inappropriate "I see a shark" hand gestures at the divers cleaning the tanks, solely for her amusement.

Save for the complete absence of flying cars it was possibly the closest I've come to feeling like we're finally living in the future.

Um, it's a fish. Possibly an eel. I want to say, er, a Moray eel?

Um, some more fish. Actually more fishes, as there is probably more than one type in there.

That orange one is kinda a big deal. People know him, um, it.

Ok, look, at this stage let's just accept that I know very, very little about fish, and move on.

Finally, one I recognise. Almost definitely a human.

Hey, you stayed to the end of my fishy holiday snaps. Good for you. Here's a bonus like that bit at the end of Avengers where they all went for a falafel. Also present at the Academy were a group of Buddhist monks, wandering around and taking snapshots of themselves with an iPad. I was a very, very bold boy and snuck around after them trying to surreptitiously catch them in the act.

Which I did.

Twice.
