#OccupyDameStreet - Every dog has its day

Here They Come, by Alan Butler
Temple Bar Gallery + Studio, Dublin, Wednesday April 25th
The #OccupyDameStreet camp may be gone, but thanks to artist Alan Butler (friend of us here at Booming Back) a part of it lives on, at least until June 2nd.

Alan was a frequent visitor to the camp (his studio is a sixty-second walk away) and over the course of the occupation, and with the agreement of some of the camp residents, he borrowed a number of signs, copied them and returned the duplicates to the camp, keeping the originals for himself. He mixed these with a large number of pallets that were recycled out of the camp to create his latest installation, Here They Come, a giant wooden replica of the animated dog from Dire Straits' "Money for Nothing" video (kids, ask your parents).

The piece is part of the entrance1, entrance2 exhibition at Temple Bar Studios + Gallery running until the 2nd of June. I popped down to take a look this afternoon (in the middle of the pouring rain), and am not ashamed to admit that seeing it brought a nostalgic moistness to my eyes.

That looks amazing! I asked my dad about Dire Straits but he just muttered something about being there at the birth of "Empty V" which I assume were another popular band back in the old days.

Dire Straits were once a popular beat combo, and much as Al Gore invented the Internets, so to did Dire Straits invent the Compact Disk.
