Just a perfect day

I know it's Friday, but this is a post about last Sunday. The Very Understanding Girlfriend and I went to the Zoo, and it was amazing. My childhood memories of the Zoo were always of sad animals in small cages, a really depressed Polar Bear pacing back and forth in his enclosure suffering from some pretty bad mental problems (not least of which was the fact that his natural white camouflage was useless in a concrete pit in Ireland) and a petting zoo that had Labradors and a cow.

That was twenty years ago, and I have to say I was really, really amazed by the redevelopment, not least of which is the new African Plains section, carved out of 13 hectares of the grounds of Aras an Uachtaráin, which allows giraffes, rhinos, zebras and gazelle all to wander free, and chat amongst themselves about how cold it is, and wet, and how everything has become more expensive since the Euro was introduced. Oh, and property prices, they're pretty ridiculous as well.

We had a great time, took lots of pictures, and were a little less uncomfortable with the concept of a zoo.

The cows and dogs were still there though.
